For multiples, 12 weeks' paid leave is granted.The mother or father is then allowed up to three years of unpaid leave to stay at home with the child, whilst retaining job security.Recently, the German government initiated a scheme that allows direct subsidies to new parents too, funded by the federal tax system and lasting between 12 or 14 months following the child's birth.
